Is the Dental Implant Procedure Painful?

Our team of specialists works to make the process as painless as possible. Dr. Choi administers anesthesia before performing the procedure. In the days immediately following the procedure, you can manage any discomfort with over-the-counter medication and ice packs.

How Long is the Recovery Process?

Recovery time varies according to where you are in the procedure, as implants typically require at least three visits. When you receive the implant, you may also require a bone graft or sinus lift and tooth extraction during the same visit.

The recovery period for each step in the procedure lasts a few days. During this time, your Dr. Choi may prescribe an antibiotic to guard against infection. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication help you control swelling, bruising, and discomfort. In addition, you’ll keep the area clean by gargling several times each day with a mixture of warm water and salt.

Are Dental Implants Dangerous?

No, dental implants have proven safe and effective for over three decades. The implant is made of a biocompatible material, usually titanium, because it integrates with your jawbone (called osseointegration) and creates a solid foundation for the prosthetic teeth. It is strong, secure, and even improves jawbone health.

What Happens if I Don’t Get Dental Implants?

Tooth loss causes the tissue in your jawbone to deteriorate. As this happens, the shape of your face changes, resulting in a sunken appearance, which typically makes you look older than you are. Of course, missing teeth exacerbate this appearance.

Dental implants help stimulate your jawbone, halting that shrinkage and improving your appearance.

Dental Implants Keller, TX

Dr. Choi has been performing dental implants in Keller, TX at Keller Family Dental for years now. Word is constantly spreading among Texans in the Keller community about his professionalism, experience, and friendly demeanor.

He has helped countless Texans with their dental implants (who travel from all across the lone star state for his services). Today we are going to talk a little bit about how Dr. Choi performs dental implants in his Keller dental surgery, and answer some common questions about the procedure.

Why Is Dental Implant Surgery So Popular In Keller?

It’s not just Keller that is experiencing a surge in demand for dental implant surgery. In fact, it’s not just the state of Texas - it’s the whole country. As costs come down, and reliability goes up, more and more people are opting to invest in their long-term oral health with implants.

It’s easy to see why so many people have reached this conclusion, dental implants are far superior to the only real alternative – dental bridges.

Many people have heard of dental bridges. But do you actually know what they are? People are often quite shocked to learn the inner workings of the procedure.

Dental bridges are a single piece prosthesis that is custom made for your mouth. Your dentist will take a mold of your mouth, send it off to a dental lab, and they then make your custom bridge. What many people don’t know about bridges, is how dentists attach them to your mouth.

A dental bridge is secured in place by attaching it to two healthy teeth located either side of the gap caused by tooth loss. To secure the bridge properly a dentist needs to grind away all the enamel (the protective stuff) away from your healthy teeth. This leaves an exposed core of fragile dentin which the bridge is then secured to.

While the bridge remains in place, this is not really a cause for concern, but bridges do not have an indefinite lifespan. In fact, they usually only last for around 10 years. When the sealant around the bridge starts to degrade, bacteria can get underneath and start to attack the fragile dentin. This can result in decay, and when the bridge fails, the once healthy tooth is now often too damaged to support the bridge.

When this happens the cycle repeats with the next healthy tooth in your mouth being used for support, and the bridge gets bigger. The cycle can often continue until you run out of teeth for bridging and need dentures.

It’s not a great option, but before dental implants were available, bridges were all we had.

Dental implants are popular in Keller because they are superior to bridges in every way. Instead of relying on the root of adjacent teeth to take the strain of the missing tooth, an implant is directly inserted into the jaw bone.

The implant is essentially a tiny titanium screw that fuses with your bone to create a solid continuous strong bond. This makes dental implants as strong as (or stronger) than your real teeth. After the implant has been inserted there is a healing period of 5 to 12 weeks to allow this fusion to happen.

After that, you will return to your dentist and they will attach a device called an abutment to the end of your implant. The abutment is the connector that allows a super strong bond to form between the titanium implant and the new tooth.

A mold of your mouth and teeth will be taken by the dentist and you will have a new tooth custom designed and made for your mouth. The procedure is incredibly accurate and it results in a tooth that is literally a perfect fit. The tooth is also accurately color matched to the coloration of your existing teeth to allow it to blend in seamlessly. After all this is completed, the tooth is finally attached to the abutment and the whole procedure is finished.

At this point, you have a full set of happy healthy teeth that look 100% natural. Dental implants last much longer than bridges (which only last 10 years). Once the tooth has been replaced with an implant, you never have to worry about that tooth again (providing you have a good dental hygiene routine).

The cost of an implant might initially be more than a bridge, but over the long term, the difference is negligible. In some cases, dental implants are often the more affordable option. The cost of having a bridge replaced 3 or 4 times over the course of your life can soon add up. When you combine that fact with the requirement to harm healthy teeth to fit a bridge, it’s easy to see why dental implants are so popular in Keller, TX.

Why Is Dental Implant Surgery So Popular In Keller?

Word spreads fast around Keller, Texas. Our small community respects honesty, professionalism, family values, and trust. There’s a good chance you have already heard about Dr. Choi’s dental implant services from other Keller residents. We are guessing that’s how most of you found this page. With that in mind, here are just some of the reasons we feel patients recommend Dr. Choi and the Keller Family Dental team.

Dr. Choi Is One of the Most Experienced Dental Implant Surgeons in Keller, TX

Dental implants are a complex, invasive, and difficult procedure for many dentists to perform. Many Texan patients know this, and as such, they are anxious about the procedure. For many people, it is the most serious form of dental surgery they will have had in their entire lives. An experienced dental surgeon is beneficial for most dental treatments, but when it comes to dental implants, the experience is essential.

This is because of the discomfort that can be felt during the procedure. Dental implants are invasive, but they are totally painless. Dr. Choi ensures the mouth of each and every patient is fully numbed before starting the procedure. However, despite it being painless, it is still inevitably an uncomfortable experience for many people. This is due to the nature of the treatment. There will be vibration from the drilling, pressure from the implant, and lots of pushing and pulling throughout.

If your dental surgeon is inexperienced with dental implants, this uncomfortable situation will still be pain-free, but it will last much longer than it needs to. Implanting dental implants is a precision procedure. The alignment needs to be just right for the perfect results. If your dental surgeon doesn’t have the experience required, you will be exposed to the discomfort much longer than you need to be.

Dr. Choi’s experience allows him to complete the procedure in record time. He knows exactly how to do the job, and many patients are stunned at just how quickly the procedure is completed in his capable hands.

Dr. Choi Puts Your Interests First

You may or may not have already heard about the shocking practice we are about to tell you about. But we are sure you will agree that it’s disgusting.

Dr. Choi (and all respectable dentists in the world) firmly believe that the only consideration that should be taken into account when suggesting treatment options is the wellbeing of the patient. Dentists are in a trusted position, patients heavily rely on their years of experience and expertise, and generally accept their opinions.

A handful of disgraceful, dishonest, and despicable dentists know this fact, and they are using it to make a huge profit at the patient’s expense. There are numerous anecdotal reports of dentists in Texas suggesting patients have healthy teeth extracted and replaced with implants. In some cases, this can actually be in the patient’s best interest. But if you are unlucky to get one of the dishonest dentists that put profit over patients, then it’s probably not.

Countless numbers of patients across Texas are having perfectly healthy teeth removed when there is no medical reason for doing so. It’s a violation of the trust people put in their dentists and everything they stand for. Luckily this is a reasonably small issue, the vast majority of dentists are honest people who genuinely care for their patients. But still, it’s imperative that people are made aware of this issue.

Needless to say, Dr. Choi despises this practice. His only concern is the well-being of his patients. He will never suggest a treatment option that is motivated by anything other than your best interests. Period.
